transitive verb

1: to honor or show reverence for as a divine being or supernatural power

2: to regard with great or extravagant respect, honor, or devotion" 1

Thinking about who/what to write about for this week's prompt I considered the 2nd part of the definition of Worship.

When Chris and I first met in 1992 it was pretty clear how much he admired his grandfather, Clifton Alexander Lee.

This grandfather, he so admired, offered a safe place for him during his  chaotic growing up years.

Chris was 12 when his grandfather died, and as a young adult he spoke about him with such love and admiration.

Grandpa Clifton was also a Baptist Lay Pastor.

For this reason he fits the full definition of worship.

Taking a moment to remember the relatives who created safety & security!!!

Separation of Church & State ~ Richard Lyman

I am the 10th great granddaughter of Richard & Sarah (nee Osborne) Lyman through my mother's maternal line. 

In 1631 the family set off for North America. They left behind the graves of 4 children taking their 5 surviving children with them. 

They were part of the Great Migration that saw Puritans leave England seeking religious freedoms.

"Richard Lyman and his wife, Sarah, both born in High Ongar, England, embarked from Bristol, England, and sailed westward across the Atlantic Ocean to Massachusetts with their four children aboard the Lion in August 1631. They settled in Charlestown, just outside of Boston. Pressing farther westward five years later, they joined Thomas Hooker and others leaving the Massachusetts Bay Colony for Connecticut. The travelers set out from Newtown, Massachusetts, (now Cambridge) in 1636, following old Indian trails through forests and swamps to Chicopee, Massachusetts, and southward along the Connecticut River to Hartford." 1

5 years after their arrival they set off to Connecticut joining the Reverend Thomas Hooker whose ideas included the separation of Church & State.

He believed in Freedom of Religion. His belief was that voting should not be connected to whether they were attached to a particular religion/church. 

In practicality these original beliefs & actions in Connecticut would form the basis for an elected government with constitutional rights.

My 10th great grandfather had a role in what the United States government and rights looks like today. 

Our government & rights in Canada is different than the United States, but we do have similarities.
