52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks 2021: Week 26 (CONFLICT)
Today I received a private message on Ancestry from a 4th cousins X2 removed. We share 14 cM across 2 segments, Unweighted shared DNA: 30 cM, Longest segment: 18 cM. This amount of shared DNA fits within the expected for the relationship. This match further confirms the connection to my 5th great grandparents brick wall that I have written about many times in the past.
This is the family line that resulted in my starting a fresh tree along with taking out and putting back in many times. This new DNA match further assists me in being confident Peter & Ann (nee Kirk) Graham really are my 5th great grandparents.
Sadly it hasn't helped me go further up the line YET!
Back to my cousin's message.
My 4th great grandfather was
Robert Graham
BIRTH 16 JAN 1814 • Thornhill, Closeburn, Dumfries-shire, Scotland
DEATH 24 MAR 1892 • Forth, Lanarkshire, Scotland
In my tree on Ancestry I had a bit of conflicting information for Robert's brother:
James Graham
In my tree on Ancestry I had a bit of conflicting information for Robert's brother:
James Graham
BIRTH 16 JUL 1811 • Closeburn, Dumfries, Thornhill, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland
DEATH 23 MAR 1886 • Drowned in River Dothan, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshir
I had James' first born child (William) born a year and a half before his marriage. In the birth record I had a question mark regarding this. For William's death date I had Bef. 1864 because another William was born in that year. I had a note in the record wondering about the conflicting information.
My newly found (via DNA match) cousin knew a lot more about the conflicting information for William that allowed me to update the details for William.
William was stepson to James Graham. He died at age 14 (in 1856) from fever 8 years before his younger half brother William was born.
This one message helped clear up the conflicting information I had in our Bramble Bush, and further confirmed the research for this line.
